What is Intelligence Analysis?

Intelligence analysis is an iterative process of interpreting information and elaborating evidence about situations and events. The product of the analysis is a report discussing hypotheses explaining a situation supported by evidence. Analysis is fundamental for developing insights on situations for effective decision-making.

Intelligence analysis was conceptualised by Pirolli and Card as a process including two iterative loops: a foraging loop for the collection and filtering of information from sources, and a sense-making loop that focuses on interpreting this information by identifying hypotheses and structuring evidence. CISpaces provides effective support to the process of forming hypotheses and generating reports that can be used by decision makers in informing strategies, planning operations, emergency response, etc.
